Polaris

Oh! So pleased to see you
I was, when you shone
Luminously in the sky,
As if a lustrous solitaire
He adorned.

So heavy hearted
He appeared before you,
Quietly, came into view.
And, as you sparkled,
He reddened, deeper and deeper,
His dusty, greyish blueness
Dissolved.

Now it is dark.
His satiny black suit,
Sequined with celestial bodies,
Is perfectly uncreased.

Look, how the moon,
Moodily perched
On the sky’s lap,
Basks in his false glory.

You, however,
You are Polaris,
The prominent one,
The loyal friend,
The reliable guide.

You are a jewel
For the dusk, a token
Of remembrance
To the dawn.

Oh! So pleased to see you
I was, when you shone
Luminously in the sky,
As if a lustrous solitaire
He adorned.
